The visit to the fifth research centre of Clausthal University of Technology marked the end of a one-week excursion of the Institute for Deep Drilling Technology and Fluid Mining at Freiberg University of Technology. On site in Celle, the students were first given an insight into the main research topics in an introductory presentation. In a subsequent guided tour, the software and hardware simulator, the two central technical systems of the German Centre for High Performance Drilling Technology and Automation, were presented.
The guided tour included a tour through the hall of the DSC, where the hardware test rig is located. At this test rig, drilling tests with full-size drilling tools can be carried out under realistic conditions.
The highlight for the students of petroleum engineering and geophysics was certainly the unique opportunity to work practically on the institute's own software simulator. The ultra-modern drilling technology simulator offered the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during their studies. Even taking a seat in the drillmaster's chair of the software simulator was enthusiastically received and found lively participation.
Already last year the DSC welcomed a group of students from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg- also within the scope of a one-week excursion of the Institute for Deep Drilling Technology and Fluid Mining. Even at the farewell ceremony, the mutual interest in repeating the tour was already apparent. In addition to the mining tradition, the two universities are also linked by a cooperation agreement - the success of this cooperation is always evident during these excursions.
